Nanofying the world: Eurice Project SENSIndoor Receives Best Project Award

FP7 project SENSIndoor has won the Best Project Award at the EuroNanoForum 2017 in Malta. While three projects were shortlisted, the winner wasn’t announced before the event which created a particularly exciting moment for coordinator Professor Andreas Schütze and his team. EuroNanoForum 2017 is a networking and brokerage event focussing on how nano and materials technologies can strengthen competitiveness across all European industries. It also covers framework conditions such as education, standards, regulations, IPR and safety issues, as well as entrepreneurship and industrial policy.

The Best Project Award is given to past and on-going FP7 and Horizon 2020 projects with a particularly great potential impact on industry and society. We were happy to join SENSIndoor coordinator Professor Andreas Schütze, take the chance to meet 70 expert speakers and approximately 700 international delegates in Malta and even more pleased to celebrate the award with the team. In his speech at the award ceremony, Professor Schütze highlighted the work achieved in the international consortium giving special thanks to Corinna Hahn and the Eurice team who contributed to the project success as a management and dissemination partner.

Launched in 2014, SENSIndoor has been developing a nanotechnology-based smart sensor system to control indoor air quality. The approach taken by the international consortium is unique: While so far, indoor air quality is mainly being measured in terms of CO₂ or the total amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air, the novel multi-sensor system applies a pre-concentrator to be able to distinguish between benign and hazardous VOCs and to enable the development of a smart on-demand ventilation system.
