European Innovation Council Summit 2024: Eurice Organises Successful Workshop on IP Management and Knowledge Valorisation Strategies

With over €1.6 billion only in 2023, the European Innovation Council (EIC) is the main European funding instrument for breakthrough innovators to scale up and create new markets.

The EIC Summit is the flagship event for EIC beneficiaries. It features workshops on diverse issues for researchers and entrepreneurs, such as business development and dealing with investors. This year, the Summit’s third edition took place in Brussels during the European Commission’s Research & Innovation Week (R&I Week) from 18 to 21 March. Over the past three years, Eurice has contributed to these two large-scale events by organising specific workshops to support young innovators in their challenging journey to market.

Moderated by the European IP Helpdesk Training Coordinator Michele Dubbini, this year’s interactive session "Teaming up for IP Excellence – IP Management and Valorisation Strategies” spanned the entire innovation lifecycle from intellectual asset creation to market uptake, welcoming several speakers to the stage: Iordanis Arzimanoglou, EIC Programme Manager; Jakob Haardt, Senior Research & Innovation Manager at Eurice, and Dr Edgar Janunts, EIC beneficiary and founder of the AkknaTek GmbH, based in Saarland, Germany.

During the fully booked event, Jakob Haardt provided valuable insights into the importance of IP management and knowledge valorisation strategies within collaborative EIC projects: “Establishing a strategy for all intellectual assets generated in collaborative research is crucial, particularly for those results which are developed collaboratively and jointly owned. Steering innovation and IP management activities in multiple EIC Pathfinder projects, it’s been rewarding to discuss this crucial topic with such a great panel and engaging audience,” he said.

The vivid penal discussion also specifically highlighted the significance of licensing activities for EIC beneficiaries. Tracing the journey of his Saarland-based company AkknaTek GmbH, which was awarded the prestigious EIC Accelerator grant in 2022 and is advised by Eurice, Dr Edgar Janunts illustrated how the EIC funding, coupled with an effective IP strategy, played a pivotal role in bolstering the company's progress.

The Eurice and European IP Helpdesk team has been thrilled by the great turnout, engaging conversation and positive feedback from the audience.
