TRADITOM kicks off project activities in Procida
Kick-Off meeting in Procida, Italy marks successful project start
The TRADITOM project was officially launched at the Kick-Off meeting from April 24-25, 2015. The event was hosted by project partner Agenzia Nazionale Per Le Nuove Tecnologie, L’Energia E Lo Sviluppo Economico Sostenibile (ENEA) on the island of Procida, Italy. The meeting was a perfect opportunity for the consortium members to come together for the first time and to lay the foundation for a successful cooperation in the years ahead.
After a warm welcome address by the project coordinator, Antonio Granell (CSIC), all partners introduced their institution, outlined their expertise and highlighted their role in the project. To ensure successful implementation, the work package leaders provided detailed information about the scientific work within TRADITOM. This was complemented by a targeted discussion of the next steps towards future planning.
TRADITOM has received funding from the Horizon 2020 European Union funding for Research and Innovation with a total budget of €4.3 million. The three-year project started on March 01, 2015 and is characterized by a multi-actor approach that includes academic institutions, farmers associations, and an SME breeding company. TRADITOM seeks to provide traditional tomato farmers with a strong science-based knowledge platform on the identity of traditional tomato varieties, i.e. why are they different and better according to consumers than modern cultivars?
The project partners are excited to start working together, combining their complementary expertise and broad experience. “I think we are making a good start as all partners are enthusiastic about this project”, says coordinator Toni Granell.
Eurice is management partner of TRADITOM and supports the consortium in the successful performance during the course of the project. As part of the Kick-Off meeting, Eurice addressed project management, contractual and administrative issues and offered individual training in order to inform the project partners about H2020 regulations and procedures.
