European Commission publishes new Work Programme

The European Commission recently published the 2016-2017 Work Programme. The funding opportunities offered by the Work Programme are aligned with the Commission’s policy priorities and will contribute to priority targets such as the ‘Jobs, Growth and Investment Package’, the ‘Digital Single Market’, the 'Energy Union and Climate change policy’, the Internal Market with stronger industry and making Europe a stronger global actor. The new Work Programme enhances an approach to applicable and marketable results. Further, a two-stage submission procedure will be applied in most cases.

The so called cross-cutting initiatives constitute a new part of the Work Programme and have a range of calls for proposals in the fields of ‘Industry 2020 in the Circular economy’, ‘Internet of Things’, and ‘Smart and Sustainable Cities’. Moreover, the funding opportunities go beyond the EU’s borders and encourage investments in research and innovation in the fields of human trafficking, crime and terrorism, and migration flows.

Additionally, the Work Programme 2016-17 is set to improving the impact of the funding under Horizon 2020 by new leveraging opportunities supported by the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) and to improve synergies with other EU funding programmes.
