ncRNAPain 2016 Annual Meeting in Innsbruck

From 3rd to 4th November 2016, the ncRNAPain consortium followed the invitation of their coordinator, Michaela Kress, to Innsbruck, Austria, where they gathered for their annual meeting at the Medizinische Universitaet Innsbruck. Prof Kress was very pleased to welcome the international consortium for two days of intense work, assessing the results achieved and deciding on the steps towards concluding the project’s objectives during the final year.

All PIs were given the opportunity to present their data and findings across all Work Packages they are involved in, each presentation followed by a discussion of the research results shown. On basis of the results presented, the subsequent individual work package discussions focused on defining the action plans for the final period. The coordinator, Michaela Kress, was extremely satisfied with results achieved since the last meeting in Bordeaux and expressed her confidence that the action plans the consortium agreed will pave the way to achieving the project’s goals by September 2017, when the project terminates.

On the first day, the participants were offered a guided tour by Prof Huettenhofer though the laboratories of the Biocenter Division of Genomics & RNomics, while after the end of the meeting Prof Kress led through the laboratories of the Division of Physiology.

The next meeting will take place in spring 2017 and will be hosted in Mainz.

ncRNAPain is a four-year Collaborative Project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union. The project aims to tackle ncRNAs in pain syndromes for which treatments are either inexistent or inadequate, such as neuropathic and neurogenic pain. ncRNAPain will identify specific patterns of circulating ncRNA for improving diagnostic and prognostic precision, as well as their contribution to inter-individual variations in the response to painful stimuli and analgesic drugs.

The Eurice team is involved in ncRNAPain as management and dissemination partner and contributes to the successful implementation of the project goals.
