The IMMEDIATE project aims to develop personalised prediction strategies for diseases caused by chronic inflammations – the root cause of most non-communicable diseases. To do so, the IMMEDIATE researchers study how diet, gut bacteria, and the immune system impact health-to-disease progression. Using advanced technologies, the project examines healthy and pre-disease groups, including kidney transplant recipients in whom the renal function has been "reset to baseline" and other observational cohorts. Through artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, the IMMEDIATE consortium will determine the individual impact of dietary habits on the microbiome, the metabolome, and the immune system to predict the individual inflammation risk. Testing the anti-inflammatory microbe Akkermansia muciniphila, the project explores its effect on the gut. Translating the project findings into a cutting-edge mobile app, IMMEDIATE strives to empower individuals to adopt and integrate the project’s knowledge-based health interventions into their own lives, thereby self-managing their health.
