When Treatment Turns Risky
For many people living with chronic conditions, managing their health means taking multiple medications at once. While these treatments are essential, combining them can lead to unintended consequences. The risk of harmful drug interactions and adverse effects increases with each added medicine, especially when individual factors like age, genetics, and overall health come into play. These risks can lead to serious complications, hospitalisations, and even death.
SafePolyMed addresses this challenge by focusing on how different combinations of drugs affect different people—and how those risks can be better predicted, prevented, and managed.

Smarter Data, Safer Care
By analysing health records from over one million people, SafePolyMed explores how factors such as age, genetics, long-term conditions, and combinations of medications can affect the effectiveness of treatments, and why they sometimes cause harm.
Utilising the latest technology, including artificial intelligence, and involving patients throughout every phase of the project, the SafePolyMed team is developing digital tools that empower individuals to take greater control of their health and support more equitable, high-quality care across Europe.
The goal is to help individuals and healthcare professionals choose the safest and most effective treatments for each person, because the right medication should work for you, not against you.
