Accelerating Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product Development and Implementation: JOIN4ATMP Looks Back on Successful 1st Project Year

Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) are medicines based on genes, cells and tissues for human use that can sustainably improve or even cure diseases that currently have no or inadequate standard-of-care options. However, several hurdles remain unsolved and prevent the implementation of these innovative therapy options into effective clinical applications. JOIN4ATMP aims to accelerate European ATMP development and ensure widespread ATMP access while fostering the expansion of strong Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) on a European level.

Launched in January 2024, the project has made significant progress in its first year. The 1st Annual Meeting in November 2024 provided an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far, celebrate key milestones and set priorities for the upcoming project period.

Leading the project’s outreach and exploitation activities, the EURICE team has played a crucial role in actively fostering networks, strengthening communication, and opening dialogue with key stakeholders, ATMP developers and regulators in and outside the EU. To this end, the team has also steered the preparation of the first JOIN4ATMP highlight article, showcasing the project's achievements during its first year.

JOIN4ATMP has built a solid foundation by establishing strong governance, key advisory bodies, and an engaged network of partners. Additional important milestones include the design of an ATMP clinical database, a preliminary economic model, defined use cases, and a stakeholder questionnaire—crucial steps towards achieving its mission.
