Just Released: Eurice Welcomes New "Code of Practice on the Management of Intellectual Assets for Knowledge Valorisation"

On 7 March 2023, the European Commission (EC) released its recommendation for a Code of Practice on the management of intellectual assets for knowledge valorisation in the European Research Area. The Eurice team played a critical role in developing this new guide, working alongside other EU-wide experts.

The new Code of Practice aims to increase the impact of research results and innovative technologies and accelerate the use of knowledge. It addresses all research and innovation (R&I) actors by offering guidance on strategic intellectual assets management. The Code of Practice has been published in all official EU languages.

Eurice CEO Jörg Scherer was an essential member of the writing team with particular contributions to intellectual property (IP) management in collaborative R&I environments and a focus on the values of Open Science and Open Innovation for knowledge valorisation: "With this new guide, the EC recognises the importance of properly managing intellectual assets in a broad sense – through any knowledge assets – from the creation of IP to the market, including social impact. Thus, the Code of Practice will encourage and facilitate collaborations between R&I actors such as those involved in Horizon Europe."

As a next step, Eurice will collaborate with the European Commission team to translate the main subjects of the official document into a more vivid, user-friendly format.
