EURICE and sister company RISE join high-level consortium – including META Group SRL (Coordinator), ASTP, the Universities of Belgrade and Vilnius, Trust-IT, and Commpla – in a new EU initiative to help Public Research Organisations and Academic Institutions boost intellectual asset management (IAM) and standardisation.

In today’s fast-paced innovation landscape, intangible assets are key to turning research and innovation (R&I) results into real impact. Yet, many public research and academic institutions across Europe still struggle to unlock their full value. IAM4RE.eu supports the EU’s drive for open science, sustainable innovation, and better valorisation of public research – advancing the goals of the European Research Area and complementing initiatives like the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and research impact standardisation. The project receives a total funding of close to 2 million Euro for the next two years under the EU’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

Promoting a comprehensive approach to Intellectual Asset Management & Valorisation

The European Commission’s Guiding Principles of Knowledge Valorisation formally adopted at the end of 2022, underline the broad and complex value of research outcomes. IAM4RE.eu builds on this by promoting a comprehensive approach to Intellectual Asset Management, based on a broader understanding of intellectual assets, going beyond patents and licences to include data, software, methodologies, know-how, standards, and more.

“IAM4RE.eu seeks to empower European research organisations and academic institutions with practical tools to better harness and valorise their knowledge assets. Despite significant advances, a gap remains between research outcomes and entrepreneurial application. Through this initiative, and in synergy with our broader portfolio of IP projects, such as the European IP Helpdesk, IP4OS, the Horizon Results Booster or the Impact Licensing Initiative, we strive to foster a more strategic, sustainable, and inclusive approach to knowledge transfer and innovation across Europe,” said Claire Fritz, IAM4RE Project Manager at EURICE.

Fully aligned with the EU Codes of Practice on the management of intellectual assets and standardisation, IAM4RE.eu aims to deliver impactful, policy-relevant, and widely applicable results. By developing a comprehensive support framework, the project will help institutions integrate IAM into their daily operations and long-term strategies, promoting sustainable innovation and amplifying their societal and economic contributions.
