MuSiC4Diabetes: New Video Highlights the Project’s Breakthrough Device
The MuSiC4Diabetes project has just released their new animated video explaining the project's stakes, mission and impact. In this two-minute-long clip, the viewer follows the life of Kate, a young woman living with diabetes and facing the psychological impact of diabetes and the practical challenges that her treatment implies. The video further introduces the device in development within the MuSiC4Diabetes project that combines breakthrough technologies that significantly improve the quality of life of persons living with diabetes:
- Comprehensive sensing technologies via multi-metabolite captor
- Precise injection pumping systems for controlled, targeted delivery
- Smart algorithmic processes to ensure maximum precision and safety via control mechanisms
Multi-Metabolite Captor for Real-Time Monitoring
The device will feature a multi-metabolite captor. Unlike conventional glucose monitors that track only blood sugar, this sensor will be designed to detect a range of metabolites. By continuously monitoring glucose, lactate, and ketone bodies, the device offers a holistic understanding of metabolic status.
Precision Injection Pumping System for Targeted Delivery
Complementing the sensing technologies is the precise injection pump, which enables a controlled, targeted delivery of insulin. This system ensures that the right dose is administered at the right time. The fine-tuned pumping system will be designed to adapt dynamically to the changing needs of the individual throughout the day and addresses the challenges of insulin delivery with a high level of precision.
Smart Algorithmic Control Mechanisms for Maximum Safety
Finally, the device will integrate smart algorithmic mechanisms that will enhance safety and efficiency. These control mechanisms will analyse the continuous flow of data from the multi-metabolite captor, adjusting insulin delivery in real-time. In addition, the device will integrate smart control mechanisms that significantly improve its safety.
This fusion of advanced components will provide an unparalleled treatment accuracy, safety and efficiency, therefore setting a new standard for diabetes care. To learn more on the concrete objectives of the project, click here.
About MuSiC4Diabetes
In MuSiC4Diabetes, seven partners from all over Europe join forces to significantly change diabetes management. The project is funded by the EIC pathfinder programme and basically aims to develop a smart device that combines substance monitoring and insulin delivery: a micro-pump carrying a multi-metabolite sensor (tracking glucose but also lactate and ketone bodies), which is implanted in the peritoneum. A new multi-metabolite control algorithm will consider the three components simultaneously and thus enable prompt and precise control actions via the precise insulin delivery pump.
