QSolid: First Collaborative Meeting in Cologne

Between 28 and 30 September 2022, the QSolid partners met at the University of Cologne for their first Collaborative Meeting. Almost 100 members of the consortium participated on-site for the first in-person meeting.

After a warm welcome by QSolid coordinator Frank Wilhelm-Mauch of Forschungszentrum Jülich, the first meeting day started with a school event. Jürgen Stockburger (UUlm), Thomas Ortlepp (CiS), Lotte Geck (FZJ) and Daniel Esteve (CEA) gave presentations on their research. Frank Wilhelm-Mauch also gave a first overview of the BMBF-funded QSolid project in a public lecture on Wednesday evening. In order to get an insight into the tasks that the individual partners (25 in number) are taking on, days one and two were filled with partner introductions. Parallel breakout sessions were held, which the partners were happy to use for intensive and, above all, personal exchange. The third day of the meeting was dedicated to an ongoing discussion of the work within work packages.

On-site, the QSolid Advisory Board took the opportunity for a first personal contact as well as insights into the project work. A film team from Eurice was also present to do interviews summarising the first year of the project and to provide the public with a thematic approach to the targeted quantum computer, which is based on superconducting qubits.

The second Collaborative Meeting of the consortium is already being planned: it is to take place in March 2023 in Karlsruhe and will be hosted by QSolid partner KIT.
